a) ALS. 1pg. 5” x 6 ¾”. January 12, 1858. No place. An autograph letter signed “John A. Dix” inviting a Mr. Lawrence to play a game of chess: “If you are at leisure this evening I should be very glad to play a game of chess with you. I have a slight cold, or I would come to your house.” Written on plain paper, the letter is in fine condition. b) ALS. 1pg. 4 ½” x 7”. February 23, 1858. No place. An autograph letter signed “John A. Dix” again inviting Mr. Lawrence to his home for a game of chess: “If you are inclined to a game of chess, I am quite at leisure this evening & shall be happy to see you here.” With a clear signature, the letter is in fine condition with slight toning.
