Bills, Chief of Police in Auburn, New York: “Believing you might be interested, I am enclosing herewith a copy of my address entitled, ‘Law Enforcement and the Citizen,’ delivered on February 7th before the Chamber of Commerce of the State of New York.” Typed on official Division of Investigation letterhead, the letter is in very good condition, with tattering on the left side, and tiny holes and staining from a removed staple. b) TLS. 1pg. 8” x 10 ½”. March 11, 1936. Washington, DC. A typed letter signed “J. E. Hoover” as Director of the newly named Federal Bureau of Investigation, to Chester J. Bills: “I thought you might be interested in the contents of the enclosed copy of the address entitled ‘The Influence of Crime on the American Home,’ which I delivered today before the New York Herald-Tribune Forum on ‘Youth and Crime.’” Typed on FBI letterhead, the letter is in excellent condition, with light, tiny spots in the upper-left corner. c) TLS. 1pg. 8” x 10 ½”. June 22, 1936. Washington, DC. A typed letter signed “J. E. Hoover” as Director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, to Chester J. Bills: “I thought you might be interested in the enclosed copy of the address entitled ‘The Part of Youth in Law Enforcement,’ which I delivered over the radio today, at Washington, DC, under the auspices of the Hi-Y Clubs of America.” Typed on FBI letterhead, the letter is in fine condition, with toning and staining in the upper-left corner and a slight tear on the upper-right side. d) TLS. 1pg. 8” x 10 ½”. July 21, 1937. Washington, DC. A typed letter signed “J. Edgar Hoover” as Director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, to Chester J. Bills: “I thought you might like to receive the enclosed memorandum dated July 20, 1937, entitled ‘Accomplishments of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, United States Department of Justice, During the Fiscal Year Ended June 30, 1937.’” Typed on FBI letterhead, the letter is in fine condition, with toning and staining on lower left corner.
