Book Description
ALS. 2pg. 4 ½” x 7 ½”. May 11, 1830. The Charles W. Berkley House. An autograph letter signed “Sydney Smith” to Mr. Elliot: “I am very much obliged to Mrs. Elliot and your for your kind invitation. Today, I am so particularly engaged that I cannot avail myself of your kindness. In looking coolly into my own heart, I find that I am growing more and more careless of literature - in other words, I presume I am growing old and that the Lystole and Diastole do not perform their functions as they ought.” The letter is in fine condition with dark ink. The American Book Prices Current shows no Smith letters ever selling at auction.
