Book Description

TLS. 1pg. 7" x 9" . August 21, 1950. Washington, DC. A typed letter signed " Harry Truman" as President, to Reverend Oscar Kaiser, pastor of Milwaukee"Äôs historic Bethlehem Church: " I have learned with much interest that next Thursday you will have completed sixty years of devoted service as a Minister of the Gospel. It gives me great pleasure to join your host of friends in extending hearty congratulations. I trust that this unusual milestone will bring you a train of happy memories of a long life devoted to God and country and your fellowman, and that joy and peace may always be your portion." The Bethlehem Church was established in 1888, with Reverend John Schlerf as pastor, whom Kaiser succeeded. Typed on official White House letterhead, the letter is in very fine condition and comes with the original envelope; there is a slight smudge to one letter of the autograph.
