a) TLS. 1pg. 8” x 10”. January 10, 1940. New York. A typed letter signed “John D. Rockefeller, Jr.” to Ward N. Madison of the Rockefeller Foundation in New York City: “I am glad to receive your letter of December 19th and to hear how you are getting on. It is gratifying to know that you are happy in your work. But that could not easily be otherwise with so fine a chief as Dr. Mann. Please accept my best wishes for your health, prosperity, and happiness in the New Year.” Typed on Rockefeller Center letterhead, the letter is in fine condition with a paper clip rust stain in the upper left. b) TLS. 1pg. 8” x 10”. December 23, 1943. New York. A typed letter signed “John D. Rockefeller” to Captain Ward N. Madison of the Department of Military Science and Tactics at Lehigh University: “Your letter of December 15th is received. I have read with interest of the service which you are rendering your country. These experiences which you are having ought to be of much value. To you and yours and I send Holiday Greetings.” Madison was also affiliated with the Rockefeller Foundation. Typed on Rockefeller Center letterhead, the letter is in fine condition. c) TLS. 1pg. 8” x 10”. August 2, 1946. Seal Harbor, Maine. A typed letter signed “John D. Rockefeller, Jr.” to Ward. N. Madison, now located in Richmond, Virginia: “My trip to Wyoming in late June, followed shortly after my return by our coming up here for the summer months, has prevented an earlier acknowledgment of your letter of July 10th. I am please to know that you are again with the USO and helping in the coming campaign which is such an important as well as difficult one. How fortunate you are to have a home of your own in these days, and that, too, in so pleasant a part of the country where your wife is doing such significant work!” Typed on letterhead from The Eyrie, Rockefeller’s summer home located in Seal Harbor, Maine, the letter is in fine condition.
