He became editor of The Century Magazine and made it a powerful cultural force, blending literary works with art. ALS. 1pp. 5” x 8”. New York. May 12th 1890. An autograph letter signed ”R.W. Gilder” with an inspirational quote: ”My dear Mrs. Vaughan, ‘For sudden the worst turns the best to the brave.’ Mr. Browning ‘Prospice’ Was ever so much moral courage & inspiration & insight hacked into a single line?”. The letter, written on ”Editorial Department The Century Magazine” letterhead, is in extremely fine condition overall.
