A typed letter signed “Pat” to Katharine McGuire just weeks after becoming First Lady: “I shall be most happy to have my name listed as an honorary sponsor of the annual House and Embassy Tour on March twenty-ninth. It will be a pleasure for me to be associated in this limited way with one of the most important programs of the Board of Managers of the Washington Home for Incurables”. Perkins McGuire served as the Assistant Secretary of Defense under President Eisenhower, and was later appointed by President Nixon to be Chairman of the Commission on Government Procurement. The letter is on “The White House” letterhead and is in fine condition with two mailing folds.
