Book Description

A native of Indiana, Dreiser attended Indiana University-Bloomington for a year before he flunked out. He then began a career as a newspaper columnist, writing for the Chicago Globe and then The St. Louis Globe-Democrat. After being fired from editing women's magazines because of an inter-office romance, Dreiser began writing novels which dealt with social inequality and the "nitty-gritty" of American life, such as Sister Carrie and An American Tragedy. So controversial were some of his writings that the library trustees of Warsaw, Indiana ordered all of his works burned in 1935. ALS. 1pg. 6 ½" x 7 ½". November 13, 1917. New York City. An autograph letter signed "Theodore Dreiser": "Will stop in Thursday at 11:30. Will you try to dispose of us quickly?" Written on embossed letterhead, the manuscript is in very fine condition despite two folds
