TLS. 1pg. 7” x 9”. January 5, 1974. Washington. A typed letter signed “Betty” as First Lady on Vice President letterhead. She wrote to Mrs. Perkins McGuire: “Thank you so much for your nice note of congratulations. We appreciate your thoughts at this important moment of our lives. Many, many thanks for sending the article about my husband from the Spanish Hola magazine. It was really fun finding someone to translate the Spanish. Thank heavens my Assistant’s husband is a Spanish professor…”. At the end, Betty handwrote “Dear…& Perk, Hope you’re back soon and we’ll see you then! Love B.F.” Gerald Ford was approved to be Vice President by the House of Representatives on December 6, 1973. Perkins McGuire served as the Assistant Secretary of Defense under President Eisenhower, and was later appointed by President Nixon to be Chairman of the Commission on Government Procurement. The letter has two mailing folds and is in fine condition.
