Book Description

An archive of two letters to Inez Wallace about an acting school:
a) TLS. 1pg. 8 ‰ˆ" x 11". December 9, 1921. New York, NY. A typed letter signed "Priscilla Dean" (1896-1987), the famous American stage and silent film actress, to Inez Wallace, who would author the 1942 horror classic I Walked with a Zombie: "It gives me great pleasure to recommend your School for Motion Picture Acting. The actual experience you have had in several of the older film companies, combined with your success on the legitimate stage itself and your late experience in director-ship, certainly equips you to impart all the necessary inside foundation work to meet the requirements of the screen. If more aspirants for work in the silent drama received instruction such as you offer there would be far less disappointed young men and women who have tried to break into pictures and failed." Dean had a very successful career in silent movies, but was unable to make the transition to "talkies." Written on the letterhead of the "Universal Film Manufacturing Co.", with whom Dean had an exclusive contract, the letter is in great condition, with light toning at the edges.
b) TLS. 1pg. 8 ‰ˆ" x 11". May 24, 1932. New York, NY. A typed letter signed "J. A. Bauman", the casting director of silent film company Pyramid Pictures, to Inez Wallace: "My attention has just been called to the Course in Film Acting which you are putting on the market. From a Director's view-point, I want to say that this is one of the finest things that has ever happened to the film fans of America. Up to this time, there has been no authentic education for film aspirants, and after reading your Course, I not only endorse it, but believe that the Motion Picture Directors should give you a vote of thanks for helping to train the future actor who will come into their studios." The letter is in fine condition on "Pyramid Pictures" stationery
