Collation: [8], 230, [2]; 76, [3 – advs.] p. + 2 folded diagrams. There are numerous geometric diagrams complementing text. In the second work there are two geometric diagrams with paper overlays, triangles (p.30) and arcs (p. 39) Binding with later rebacking, wear and some loss to ends of spine and corners. Covers with tooled borders along with tooled floral and fringe patterns. Amoral book plate of Gordon of Buthlaw present on front paste down along with ink signature of same on title page. Internal condition of text very good with only minor light edge browning. The first work by Commandino was first published in 1572 and represented a major advancement in Euclid editions since the text was from an Arabic manuscript given to Commandino by John Dee. The present work only covers the first six books plus the 11th and 12th books of Euclid and was translated from the Italian by John Keill. This is the 2nd octavo printing of the Commandino text following the translation in 1701 by Keill of the first 6, 11th and 12th books of Euclid. The second work by Keill deals with plane and spherical trigonometry and a brief tract on logarithms. This is the second issue of the mathematical tracts by first Keill.
