Binding slightly rubbed with minor loss to ink, especially on hinges. Uncut pages. Collation: [vi] vii-xi, 1-393, [1]-16 (catalogue) p. There are 16 reproduced photographs and one folding map. There is general light spotting mainly to fore edge of pages. Provenance: Signature of J. Howard Wilson, Dorrydge House (sic) on free end paper and book plate of Arthur Fryer on front paste down. There is a Wilson museum in Castine Maine which houses the collection of rocks, minerals, shells, and paleontological specimens collected by J. Howard Wilson. Arthur Fryer is noted for the Fryer roses that have won many awards at different competitions in England where Fryer started growing roses in 1912. In 1999 Fryer's was honored with as one of the first recipients of The Queen Mother's International Rose Award. Farrer is recognized as one of the most outstanding writers on plant exploration. He is often referred to as ‘the father of rock gardening’ and introduced many new plants into cultivation from his expeditions. This is a posthumous publication that retains Farrer's original preface unaltered. Farrer died in upper Burma in 1920 during another plant exploration.
