This is a scarce title and represents a major advancement in the classification of plants. The mosses were the only group that Linnaeus did not include in his classification scheme. Hedwig was the first to put the mosses into a classification scheme, which is presented in this work with text and table. There were four supplementary volumes published in future years, but this is the seminal work to introduce Hedwigs ideas and examples for classification of mosses. (Nissen, 830; Pritzel 3885)
