Book Description

Hartford, 1766. unbound. Fascinating document signed by one "John Hurlbutt." 8vo, 1 page, Hartford, May 27, 1766, agreeing to take produce from the estate of Jonathan Trumbull at an agreed price. In part: "Jonathan Hurlbutt of Hartford...or value received...promise to pay unto Jonathan Trumbull of Lebanon...twenty seven pounds - ten shillings in lawful money...value of Indian corn, Rey or Wheat...at the market price..." This document is co-signed by witnesses Daniel Skinner and Richard Edwards, prominent members of Connecticut Society who had married into the Trumbull family. Trumbull himself has docketed (on the verso) several payments made by Hurlbutt towards this note. One small chip on right margin; otherwise very good. American patriot who served as Governor in both a pre-Revolutionary War colony and a post-Revolutionary War state. He was the only Colonial Governor who supported the colonies. His son, Jonathan Trumbull Jr. was an aide-de-camp to General George Washington.
