Book Description

1981. unbound. Excellent signed Russian cosmonaut commemorative postal cover issued in honor of the 10th anniversary of the Soviet space program and Yuri Gagarin's historical flight. Boldly signed by the crew of Soyuz 10, Cosmonauts: Nikolai Rukavishnikov and Alexei Yeliseyev. Soyuz 10 was a 1971 manned mission to the world's first space station, Salyut 1. However, the docking was not successful and the crew returned to earth without having entered the station. Upon reentry, the capsule became filled with toxic fumes almost taking the lives of the crew. Yeliseyev would never fly again. The design on this postal cover is referred to as the Sputnik Variety and is in excellent condition.
