Book Description

Kansas City MO:: Fred Harvey,, No date [1913].. First Edition. Hardcover. Quarto, about 11.5 inches (29.5 cm) tall, in a brown cloth spine, light brown paper covered boards decorated with the title in brick red and a color illustration of an Indian playing a flute. Unpaginated, but 32 color plates on rectos with lengthy captions on the opposite versos. Although the art is not directly credited, they are uniformly good and the artist signatures are sometimes visible. Included are works by Eanger Couse, Oscar Berninghaus and J. Allen St. John (better known for illustrating books by Edgar Rice Burroughs). Often reprinted, this is an early promotional item by Fred Harvey in excellent condition: Light corner and edge wear and a thin streak of white paint along the spine on the rear cover. The inside is clean, bright and sound.
