Book Description
Boston: D.B. Tarr, 1864. Lithograph with period hand colouring by J. H. Bufford, 18 x 31 3/4 inches. Reps notes that J. B. Bachelder, like Fitz Hugh Lane, drew his subjects from a distant viewpoint. But Bachelder's town views frequently have a realistic documentary quality, and it is not surprising to discover that many of them, including this view of Worcester, were drawn from photographic images. Worcester is shown in the distance from the perspective of a low hill, with elegantly dressed figures in the foreground.
