Book Description

New York. February 1962 through September 1969.. A substantial, but slightly broken run, followed by two late issues: 1- 8,9/10,11/12,13-25,27,28,30,32,34,36-43,45- 49 and 100 & 101. Forty-four issues. Quarto. Chiefly mimeographed, stapled, occasionally with decorative, but usually typographic self-wrappers. Front wrapper of first issue soiled, with small chip, otherwise variously very good to fine. Edited by Sis Cunningham and an advisory editorial staff including Pete Seeger, Phil Ochs, Bob Dylan, Len Chandler, Gil Turner and others, BROADSIDE focused in these years directly on the heart of the remarkable renaissance of politically and socially conscious music, printing lyrics, music and relevant articles. Early, if not first printings of lyrics (as well as occasional articles) by the likes of Dylan, Ochs, La Farge, Paxton and Seeger, are printed throughout the run, along with reprintings of earlier songs by Guthrie, Spanish Civil War songs, and the like. A remarkable chronicle of the roots of a vital and important generation of musicians.
