Schuyler became the first president of the Illinois Central Railroad, earning the title "America's First Railroad King." An Illinois Central Railroad Company bond for $1,000 signed by Robert Schuyler as president. The bond is pen and stamp cancelled, including ink cancellations through the signature. The document is a uniform blue color; the two slightly different colors on the scan is a result of "pasting" together the two halves of the large piece. John was the brother of Samuel Slater, the founder of the American cotton industry. Like Samuel, John Slater emigrated from England around 1804, and brought with him the secret knowledge of yarn and cloth manufacturing.
