In the final installment of this epic tale, Alex, along with his family gather in Henning, Tennessee to bury Aunt Lizzie. His brothers are successful and Alex writes for a living, which has father finds disappointment in. He meets Malcolm X and eventually writes co-authors his book "The Autobiography of Malcolm X," finished several weeks before the assassination of the subject. Eventually he decides to learn about his family history, leading him all over the South and eventually to The Gambia where he finds a village and a griot who recalls the story of Kunta Kinte, a young Mandinka warrior who Alex believes to be his great ancestor.
