8vo. Paris: Librairie Stock, 1927. 8vo., - pp. Original pictorial paper wrappers, uncut, with publisher’s advertisements to lower wrapper. Some faint age-toning to outer margins; otherwise very good. Warmly inscribed by Jean Cocteau in ink on the half-title, with Cocteau’s trademark hand-drawn star above his signature, “à Pierre avec ma tendresse de toujours et sous l'étoile du coeur [To Pierre with my tenderness forever and under the star of the heart]...Jean. Juillet 1927. pour paraître en Octobre 1927.” First edition, one of 150 specially printed copies for Cocteau, with a cover designed by Christian Bérard. It is hard to say who the Pierre in the inscription might be, as Cocteau’s circle of friends and lovers was very large, but it could be the same Pierre from Cocteau’s childhood, his first love, and the inspiration for the 1929 novel Les Enfants Terribles.
