Pittsburgh: The Pittsburgh Commercial, 1865. First Edition. Newspaper. Fair. Approx. 26" x 19" 4 page folded news paper. Paper has an old tape repair running the entire length of pages 1 and 2. A small piece of old tape on the vertical fold page 3. Light foxing, toning and edge creases to the paper. The morning edition, printed just 2 days after the assassination, has several articles, on going events, and current investigations surrounding Lincoln's death. Headlines include: "The National Calamity", "Scenes and Incidents"; "Narrow Escape of President Johnson", "President Lincoln's Last State Paper", "Secretary Seward"; "Lincoln's Burial" and many more articles. Other news pertains to the surrender of General Lee, lack of news from Johnston's Army, French in Mexico and the fears of invasion by Jeff. Davis' Soldiers, etc. Several advertisements on pages 3 and 4.
