1985 · Berkeley
Berkeley: Biko Plaza News, 1985. Ten issues of the newsletter published by campus anti-apartheid activists at UC Berkeley. Format varied dramatically; most are 5.5x8.5 or 7x8.5 inch 4-panel brochures, but the issues of volume 2 are in tabloid newspaper format. Produced by cut-and-paste photocopying, with some errors in numbering. Generally very good. Issues present are: Vol. 1 nos. 7, 11, 1[3], 14, 18, 23; vol. 2 nos. 1, 5, 7; and vol. 3 no. 3. Day-by-day updates on sit-ins, demonstrations, meetings, and other actions by activists, with summaries of anti-apartheid actions on other campuses as well. Upper Sproul had been renamed Biko Plaza by the activists, in memory of the slain South African socialist.
