New York: E. P. Dutton & Co, n.d.. Album. Good. Small quarto album. White padded cloth covers with gilt imprinted title and floral decoration on the front cover. Cloth is lightly soiled and frayed at board edges. Interior condition is very good. Album consists of [32] leaves, printed on one side, on thick card stock. Illustrated and decorated contents with several color lithographs. Each page has a printed line(s) from a famous poet or writer. Several unused sections of the album book. 14 of the 32 leaves were used for hand written records of the wedding of Virginia Ethel Alexander and Lewis McFarland Gaines, June 12th, 1906, at 57 Washington Street, Atlanta, Georgia. Written portions of the wedding include the "Date of the First Meeting"; "Date of Engagement"; "Names of the Bridal Party"; "Certified Wedding Date"; "Names of Guests"; etc. Several Atlanta family names are written in the guest portion including the Alexanders, McFarlands, and Calhouns. Another section in the album contains a list of presents given to the bride and groom. Dozens of Atlanta family names are recorded next to the gifts. One entry records a gift given to the bride and groom by Mr. and Mrs. S. M. Inman. Lewis McFarland Gaines is listed in the book "Notable Southern Families. This album also includes 3 small name cards of "Alexander Pendleton Gaines." Alexander Gaines, born in 1910, was the son of Lewis and Virginia Ethel (Alexander) Gaines.
