Council Bluffs: The Yellow Barn Press, 1986. Limited Edition. Hardcover. Near fine. Gill, Eric; DePol, John. No. 58 of 200 copies, reprinted from the S. Dominic's Press edition of 1921, with prospectus. The fourth collaboration of John DePol and Yellow Barn Press, this volume contains an essay by Eric Gill (1882-1940), in which he argues the purpose of dress and vanity among the sexes. With a new frontispiece woodcut portrait of Eric Gill by DePol, and two woodcuts by Gill throughout the essay; includes the prospectus for the book and an extra spine label laid in at the first page of the text.
___DESCRIPTION: Full bright blue cloth, paper label with a John DePol design in light blue and white with title in black on the front board, white paper spine label with black lettering, endpapers patterned in the same DePol peacock design in deep navy, frontispiece woodcut illustration of Eric Gill by John DePol, with two additional woodcuts by Eric Gill throughout, title page text is in Gill's Perpetua in navy and black, and a Gill Floriated initial is used on page one; Gill's 14 pt. Joanna type, Mohawk Superfine Text paper, duodecimo size (7" by 5.25"), pagination: [i-vi] 1-15 [1 colophon], one of 200 copies, this number 58. With the prospectus, a bifolium of white paper printed in black and navy.
___CONDITION: Volume is near fine, with clean boards, straight corners without rubbing, a strong, square text block with solid hinges, and the interior is clean and bright; a slight soiling mark on the front board but boards are clean overall, and a small P. O. address label from a prior owner on the verso of the rear free endpaper. The prospectus is very good plus, clean with colours bright, lightly crimped to upper corner, else fine.
