by Ikirt, George P.
n.p.: [the author-?], 1886. 8p., edgeworn pamphlet, paper toned. Top edges uncut; last page has an edge tear (not affecting text) and some soiling. "The Speaker, in an address delivered August 12th, at Smith's Grove [Kentucky], to an organized club of farmers, took occasion to denounce labor organizations in very emphatic terms, by reason of which many labor men were displeased, and a request was made through the press that the writer of this article give his views on the subject. In response to that request this article was written and published in The Crisis, of August 28, 1886." While dismissive of many laborers, and of "European scum," the author does support an eight-hour workday. (Inventory #: 217958)
