Universal City, CA: Universal Pictures, 1949. First Edition. Original 137 page final shooting script with color rewrite pages, dated December 20, 1949, for the film ‘Peggy’ written by George W. George and George F. Slavin. With the original working title ‘Rose Queen’ printed on the front cover and title page. This copy belonged to its star, actress Barbara Lawrence, and comes with a signed autograph letter from Ms. Lawrence’s daughter and with a black & white publicity photo postcard of Barbara Lawrence signed by her on the verso (3 1/2” x 5 1/2” in fine condition). Bradbound. With “Johnny” written in pencil in an unknown hand on the front cover, possibly referencing the character Johnny ‘Scat’ Mitchell played by Rock Hudson. Very good lightly handled copy with some dust soiling, edge wear, and small tears in printed studio wrappers. ‘Peggy’ was directed by Frederick De Cordova and stars, in addition to Barbara Lawrence, Diana Lynn, Charles Coburn, Charlotte Greenwood, Charles Drake, and Rock Hudson. The film is a romantic comedy and tells the story of a family moving to Pasadena, CA and how their new neighbors step in and urge the daughters, one of whom is played by Barbara Lawrence, to participate in the Rose Bowl beauty pageant. Barbara Lawrence (1930 - 2013) appeared in a number of films, including A Letter to Three Wives (1949) directed by Joseph L. Mankiewicz with Jeanne Crain, Linda Darnell, and Ann Sothern, Here Come the Nelsons (1952) with Ozzie, Harriet, David, and Ricky Nelson and Rock Hudson, Arena with Gig Young and Polly Bergen, Her Twelve Men (1954) with Greer Garson and Robert Ryan, and the musical Oklahoma! directed by Fred Zinneman with Gordon MacRae and Shirley Jones.
