ADDRESS OF EX-GOV. AARON V. BROWN, BEFORE THE DEMOCRATIC ASSOCIATION OF NASHVILLE, JUNE 24, 1856
1856 · Nashvill
by Brown, Aaron V
Nashvill, 1856. 22pp. Stitched, as issued. Lacking wrappers. Light chipping at outer corners, not affecting text. Dust soiling, light tanning and foxing. Good. An animated speech against the Republican and Know-Nothing Parties delivered by staunch Democrat Aaron Venable Brown, a former state governor and congressional representative, before a Nashville party gathering in 1856. In particular, he decries as unconstitutional the Republicans' determination to end slavery and the Know-Nothings' desire to oust Catholics from political participation. Following that year's presidential election, James Buchanan appointed him Postmaster General. Not in Allen. SABIN 8429 (Inventory #: WRCAM53675)
