Contemporary calf, rebacked in calf with an elaborate gilt cross-hatch pattern; apart from minor browning around the edges of some leaves, generally a very good copy. Second edition (considered the best) with numerous additions. This is the famous account of a voyage which carried the new ambassador, Lord Amherst, to China in order ot negotiate the China trade, and explore the East China and Yellow Seas. The journey is described by McLeod, who was the surgeon on the ship. He writes about visits to China, Korea, Okinawa (Lewchew), and Manila, as well as the shipwreck off the coast of Sumatra and their rescue from Malay pirates. (Inventory #: 15178)
