Cambridge, 1841. unbound. very good(-). 3 pages (front and back), each two-page spread measuring 10 x 16 inches, Cambridge, July 9, 1841, to his father, Dr. Samuel B. Woodward, describing the "Harvard Rebellion" whereby students boycotted events and insisted on the termination on certain officials, in opposition to strict rules of behavior being enforced on campus, in part: "...I suppose you have heard long since the disturbances in College have entirely cleared...everyone as if by general consensus returned to his duty and since that time, we have been very quiet indeed; and there is every reason to think that we shall remain so, if Mr. Wheeler will only keep quiet...I fear that we are yet to see more trouble -- some of the clan declare that they will not perform their parts, unless Mr. Wheeler's resignation is accepted..." Note: In 1840 Rufus Woodward was suspended from Harvard University for misbehavior and poor grades. He was reinstated and graduated in 1841. American physician and son of the acclaimed Dr. Samuel Bayard Woodward, who would follow in his father's footsteps, becoming a pioneer in the study of mental illness and serving as Superintendant at the Massachusetts Lunatic Society.
