Written on verso of a front endpaper is "Tryphena Jan. 8 73 With Mama's Love." And on rear endpaper, upside down, is penned "Tryphena Morrish The gift of her sincere friend J. Thompson May 2nd 1857." Ex-library with three rubber stamps on verso of title page. Boards have moderate soiling and light wear to all edges and spine; pastedowns, endpapers and title page have moderate soiling; p. 88 and 89 have heavy toning likely from a bookmark, otherwise text block is clean. The fore edge painting is based on the ballad "As Once a Grecian Maiden Wove" on p. 95, and which is also interpreted on the frontis. It is rare to find a fore edge painting that relates to the text or other illustrations within the book. A collection of songs and ballads by Thomas Moore, Irish poet and composer, known for notable works such as "Irish Melodies" and "Lalla Rookh."
