As Supreme Commander of the Allied Forces in Europe, Eisenhower (1890-1969) had responsibility for planning and supervising the invasion of North Africa in Operation Torch in 1942-43 and the successful invasion of France and Germany in 1944-45, from the Western Front. Later, he served as the 34th President of the United States (1953-61). Includes photographs selected by Edward Steichen and 38 maps, including four in color. This copy is inscribed by Harold L. Esch, a world class lawn bowler who served in the U.S. Army during World War II, and signed by Eisenhower on the half-title. Octavo. Original tan cloth binding, with black stamping. Mild bumping to the corners and tips. Some general edgewear and a tiny bit of foxing to the dust jacket; otherwise very good. Housed in a custom burgundy cloth clamshell box.
