In generally very good condition throughout, with some light scuffing to spines, with the spine title-piece to vol. 3 missing and that of vol. 2 slightly defective: each volume has some 4 to 10 plates, generally portraits of the artists, but volume 1 having extra plates with examples of works of the most prominent such as Hogarth and Gainsborough. Tissue guards are generally present but quite a few plates are slightly foxed in margins and on the reverse, with those in vol. 3 being more so. First edition. Blake is covered in vol. 2 with a portrait and a 39 pp.biography.
