4to. London: British Library and Newcastle DE: Oak Knoll Press, 2004. 4to, 240pp. With b/w illustrartions throughout. Original brown cloth, dust-jacket, as new. First edition of this history of the press run by Lucien and Esther Pissarro. Although not successful commercially nor highly regarded by press book collectors in general, the Eragny Press books include some of the most beautiful, delicate printing in lovely subtle designer-style bindings. In the “Livre de Jade” for example, the copies on vellum and Japan vellum are exquisitely printed in 5-color woodblocks on vellum -- a feat never attempted by any of the other major presses of the time. (Inventory #: 109319)
