1919. London: Printed for Private Circulation [by Thomas J. Wise], 1919. Original dark red wrappers. First Edition, being one of only 25 copies (so stated). Conrad had a special affection for the North Sea, because in his maritime days he had used it as his training-ground before he headed off on trans-oceanic voyages. This piece had originally appeared in the 6 April 1915 issue of the London Daily News & Leader; it would later be collected (as Section III of "Poland Revisited") in NOTES ON LIFE & LETTERS.~This was the eighth of the twenty very-limited-issue pamphlets which Conrad and T.J. Wise produced during the twelve months between February 1919 and January 1920. (The first ten of Wise's twenty were generally issued without actual copy numbers being inked onto the limitation page.)~This is a fine copy, without soil or wear, and with the leaves still unopened. Cagle A35. (Inventory #: 13983)
