first edition
1930 · New York
by Reid, James (1907-1989)
New York: Farrar & Rinehart, 1930. First Edition. Octavo. 80 unnumbered pages with seventy-eight rich wood engravings by a master of the Brandywine School. Like the remarkable art of Lynn Ward he has mastered the art of telling a story that do not require words. Dover issued a fair reprint but this is the original printed on fine paper, bound in 1/4 black cloth over paper covered boards stamped with a wing and lettering in black, spine lettering silver, spine cloth faded, housed within original slipcase showing wear and a few splits. Previous owner was: John W. Bates whose stamp is on front pastedown and half-title page.
