Walter de la Mare (1873–1956) was British poet and novelist whose oeuvre fincludes works supernaturalism, psycholorical horror, humor, and tales for children. The reviewer for the Spectaror wrote: "At First Sight — is a masterpiece in its mingling of the natural and the fantastic. It begins with fidelity to experience, as objectively understood, and penetrates gradually beyond 'the edge' until truth becomes something greater than fact" (p. 30, 29 November 1930).
His signature appears on the half-title page of this novel. Publisher's light blue paper boards with navy cloth spine, gilt lettering and decoration to spine; corners bumped, board edges toned. Fore- and bottom edges untrimmed; bookseller's ticket on rear pastedown. (Inventory #: 38264)
