From the author's preface: "It is with great pleasure that I write this short preface to a book which up until now existed only in the world of my fantasy. As my colleagues are well aware, it has for a very long time . . . been a point of great frustration for scholars editing or using original documents not to have a comprehensive manual of the abbreviations used in Greek inscriptions, manuscripts and early printed books. . . . I have formed this manual by compiling in one volume sources which have long been out of print and unavailable to scholars. At last they are available between two covers."
Provenance: From the library of American collector Albert A. Howard. Publisher's red cloth with gilt lettering to front board and spine; corners bumped, rear board warped the slightest bit, edges foxed. Interior clean. (Inventory #: 38275)
