by Malo, Charles
Paris: Marcilly Fils Aine. Imprimerie de A. Firmin Didot, 1829. First Edition. Blindstamped cartonnage cloth. Decorative box. . Very Good. Scarce as a complete set of eight volumes in the original box. (None such indicated on OCLC First Search, with up to two institutions having the individual booklets, and none, for example, coming up as possessing Constantinople.) Each of the books concerns one capital: Rome, St. Petersbourg, Berlin, Vienne, Constantinople, Madrid, Paris, and Londres. Each book is 12mo, 152 by 95 mm, and 36 pp., with a hand-colored frontis depicting a lovely view of the particular city. Outer box is 22 by 17 cm, and 3 cm deep. Box has some soiling on the paper pastedown of lid top, and gilt band missing on most of one side and not quite a half of another side to the top of the lid. Still, the box retains structural integrity and its overall decorative panache. The booklets themselves are all well-preserved, with the blindstamping sharp and fresh. A few of the covers have a touch of soiling, but overall they read as clean. Most of the volumes have no or just a few incidental tiny fox marks, with one or two volumes having slightly more foxing, but even these volumes are unlikely to disconcert.
