A Leiden: Chez Pierre Vander Aa, 1731. Nouvelle edition, divisee en deux tomes, corrigee & augmentee (French translation of a work first published Lisbon, 1605). 12mo. (26), 290; (2), 293-576, [575]-582. Folding map, nine folding plates. Title pages printed in red and black. Sabin 98748. Servies 316 (for the first edition): "One of the major accounts of the travels of De Soto in Florida and throughout the present day Southeastern United States ... the major literary by-product of this historic invasion ... the first work by a native-born American author [Garcilaso was born in Peru], compiled from a few scattered texts, hearsay, and the accounts of several of his friends who were members of the De Soto expedition ... [earlier] French translations appeared in Paris in 1670 and 1709." Uniform browning throughout, but an attractive copy. Contemporary sprinkled calf, spines richly gilt with ornaments between raised bands, leather spine labels, all edges sprinkled blue. (9201).
