Claiborne, and his uncle, Gov. Claiborne, and on his own knowledge of men and matters. His account of the customs of Indian tribes in Mississippi and of events leading to the Civil War is of special importance ... the work will be used by future historians as a storehouse to draw upon. Unfortunately it has no index" [finally compiled and published in 1939]." Owner's pencil note and marking concerning a relative, else very good and quite scarce with the index.
