The author served in the major campaigns, Bunker Hill and New England, South Carolina and Virginia. Howes L-36. Sabin 38724: "The author went to America in 1776, a non-commissioned officer in the ninth regiment of foot, and served until the peace ... he undertook this work because he had seen no 'impartial detail of more minute, but no less important occurrences of the war, which, as secret springs, actuated the public movements, and which were never any further disclosed to the world, but as comprised in the general result.'" Gephart 13791. Not in Haynes or Turnbull. Early owner's name, but a very good copy. Contemporary mottled calf (front joint cracking), gilt rules and leather label on spine. (5733).
