by Hassam, F. Childe
Boston: D. Lothrop and Company, (c1884). First Edition. Good in illustrated paper covered boards with a new cloth spine. A 24mo of 5 1/2 by 7 1/4 inches with the yellow paper covered boards worn through at the edges, the fore edges of the pages are slightly worn and the first free end page has a long triangular piece missing from its upper fore corner which did not impact on the illustration on its verso side. 27 un-numbered pages illustrated with a color frontispiece and eleven color plates each which bear Hassam's small crescent moon in the lower left corner. The opposing pages contain the text of the book around which are painted scenes presumably by Hassam. The last printed page in the book is a one page, black and white ad for another volume, "Wide Awake" by the publisher. The verses in this little book are by Mrs. Clara Doty Bates and the color illustrations are by F. Childe Hassam. Given Hassam's birth year of 1859 this title would be one of his earliest works of published art. (Inventory #: TB29710)
