1970 · New York
New York: Vietnam Peace Parade Committee; Vietnam Moratorium Committee, 1970. 8.5x11 inch handbill, faintly creased from having been folded to fit into an envelope for mailing, otherwise very good. Announces a rally at Battery Park in New York, featuring Paul Krassner, Burning City Theater (a guerrilla street theater troupe), Women Strike for Peace, and historical actors. One of the figures depicted on the flyer is wearing a Yippie t-shirt. A NY Times report the following day, which described the various rallies that had been held across the city, said that "Perhaps the most novel demonstration was held at Battery Park, where the Boston Tea Party was symbolically reenacted with the burning of an outsized replica of an income tax form. This was intended as a plea for mass refusal to pay taxes to support the war.". (Inventory #: 221977)
