A children's adventure book presented in an equally exciting, illustrated binding. W.H.G. Kingston was a prolific writer of 19th-century boys' adventure novels.
The South American adventure is accompanied by 100 black and white wood-engraved illustrations by Henri Théophile Hildibrand and William Henry Freeman after Rios and various other artists.
Binding: Publisher's red cloth with beveled boards. Gilt, black and yellow stamping to spine. Gilt lettering and five pirates stamped in blue, black and yellow on front board. All edges gilt.
Provenance: On front pastedown, the bookplate of Maurice N Bennett. His signature and address appears on the front free endpaper.
WorldCat has located one institutional copy (Liverpool) of this 1897 edition. Bound as above; edges rubbed and bumped, design rubbed, faint dark spots to rear board. Black marker streak to front free endpaper, occasional finger smudges to interior, several corners creased, offsetting to rear free endpaper. Very good. (Inventory #: 37507)
