A modern fiction, to which [William] Spurstowe's name is attached" (DNB). Printed in 17th-century style at Chiswick by Whittingham. With two wood-engraved portraits on one page (of Hampden and Cromwell).
Each page printed in rules; wood-engraved headpieces, initials, and pressmark by Mary Byfield. An early example fo the revival of Caslon type, following on the heels of Lady Willoughby. Publisher's purple cloth, title in gilt on upper board, marbled endpapers. Light wear, fading, and bubbling. Title-page with small area of darkening where something had been laid in, now removed. A very good copy. (Inventory #: 38413)
