Printed monthly. This copy distributed by San Diego HIV/AIDS Service Agencies. This journal has as its goal an "effort to present a comprehensive, authoritative overview of HIV, while catching with entertaining graphics." True to its word, the cover art is an excerpt of one of Eric Orner's comics,"The Mostly Unfabulous Social Life of Ethan Green." This issue's contents are "the basics of HIV and AIDS," including different types of potential infections acquired by those with compromised immune systems, AIDS drugs and their interactions, lists of resources and readings, and a discussion on safe sex. FULL DISCLOSURE: The journal is published with funds from the Burroughs Wellcome Drug Co. In the April 1989, members of ACT-UP invaded the Burroughs Wellcome offices in North Carolina to demand a cut in the cost of the AIDS drug azidothymidine (AZT). After four ACT-UP activists chained themselves to the VIP balconly of the NY Stock Exchange, blew air horns and unfurled a banner proclaiming Sell Wellcome, the company cut the price of AZT.In June 1992 it launched Positive Action, 'an international intiative' in support of those with HIV and Aids. In 1995, Burroughs Wellcome merged with other drug businesses to form GlaxoSmithKline.
