by Sougez, Emmanuel
Paris: H. Jonquières, 1932. First edition. Softcover. g- to vg. Oblong 12mo (6 3/4 x 7"). Unpaginated. [26] leaves. Original stud-bound photo-illustrated wrappers, with red lettering to front cover. Remarkable photographic book by Emmanuel Sougez, one of the masters of New Objectivity photography. When it was published in 1931, this enchanting and elegant work was presented as one of the very first children's photobooks. In a brilliant and mastery tour de force, Emmanuel Sougez's camera succeeds to capture the essence of simple things in an everyday life: A blooming rose in a glass, a sleepy cat enjoying the view from a window, children playing, animals at the zoo, fishermen on the Seine, etc... Each of the 24 exquisite varnished photographs faces its own captioned page. Some age wear on wrappers with front cover's front joint partly stained, and front cover creased (not affecting pages). Minor water-staining to upper paper edge (not affecting pages). Previous owner's name and inscription at upper margin of title page 9not affecting lettering). Captions in French. Wrappers in overall fair to good-, interior in good to very good condition.
