1870 · New York
New York: Published by L. R. Menger. 35 Dey St., N.Y. (Drawn by C. R. Parsons, Lith. Chas. Hart, 36 Vesey St. N.Y.), 1870. Chromolithograph, 17 3/8 x 23 13/16 inches (image) on a larger sheet (21 ½ x 28 ½ inches). The print pictures a large steamship underway on the sea, with passengers on the deck, flags flying fore and aft (the Stars and Stripes) and on one of the masts ("O. D."), smoke billowing from the engine; other vessels pictured in the background, all on a choppy, deep blue sea, with clouds billowing in the light blue sky above. During the later decades of the 19th century, the company ran steamships from New York and Washington to other eastern seaboard cities and served river and sound traffic in Virginia and North Carolina. Apparently not recorded on OCLC. Small rubbed spot in the sky archivally repaired, but very good and bright. (10962). (Inventory #: 62786)
