Book VG with mild sun to spine, rubbing to boards and wear to spine ends and corners, binding tight, previous owner Egerton Castle's book plate and stamp to front endpapers, another PO's signature to pastedowns, otherwise text clean and unmarked but toned throughout. No DJ. Castle was a Victorian era author, antiquarian, and swordsman, and an early practitioner of reconstructed historical fencing, frequently in collaboration with his colleague Captain Alfred Hutton. Castle was the captain of the British épée and sabre teams at the 1908 Olympics. He was a lieutenant in the Second West India Regiment and afterwards a captain in the Royal Engineers Militia.
